That’s Not My Name - The Ting Tings

Swedish newstunner Lykke Li is a little bit Stina Nordenstam, little bit Bjork, and little bit Nokko.

don’t think i got round to posting these. went a few months ago. i can’t even remember if the food was good. i think it was average. but again, company was great, and where there’s champagne, i’m happy!
harlow boys and girls! it’s time to learn a new Kanji + Phrase.
上がる (あがる) - means to go/come up; to rise; to climb; to improve.
eg:
今回の試験で成績が上がった。(こんかいのしけんでせいせきがあがった。)
my grades improved in the exams this time.
p/s: please pardon the lateral inversion in the images. webcam + photobooth lah. they shd have a lateral inversion effect/function. いらいらする!

do you know that the Japanese language has no words that are equivalent to the English indefinite and definite articles such as “a/an” and “the”?
eg: ホテルです。
literally, it translates into “hotel is”.
words are used without articles, and you infer from the context that “it is a hotel”.
if you do want to point out a specific item indicated by “the” in English, you can use a demonstrative “this” and “that” - これ & あれ

that’s all for today! じゃ、終わりましょう!

Japanese class has been going well. i got 100% for my test. i’m on dean’s list! hahaha. aiyah, very easy one lah. kindergarten test. i bought myself some Japanese learning materials today which would make learning fun. there’s this flash card kit for learning new phrases. and i also got a Kanji-A-Day notepad where you can practise writing a new kanji (on the pad) each day. it teaches you the strokes, meaning, and gives a couple of sample compounds. so fun!
so, let’s take a look… the word of the day is “一”. hahaha. so lame. as in 一日(いちにち)& 一人(ひとり)。okay, but i’m sure they start things off easy.
the phrase of the day is 浴びる(あびる)- which means to bathe/pour oneself with water.
eg:
毎朝起きてすぐシャワーを浴びます。(まいあさおきてすぐしゃわーをあびます。)
i have a shower first thing, every morning.
but actually, i dun. the first thing i do is take a piss. lol.

had a GREAT trip! everything went like clockwork. LOVE LOVE LOVE THE MET (Glow has updated their menu and now serve bigger portions and a larger variety; had my fill of their Ginger Tea - i can never have enuff of that; slept deep on their heavenly bed; and enjoyed my workout in the cosy and superbly equipped gym). had a most fabulous dinner at Breeze with HH. and i finally told HH about the headliner of the year - the $2000 dinner i had (by myself) at the same restaurant earlier in January cos of the Grand Dame i drank by “mistake”. oh man. i will carry this joke to my grave. lol.
my audience with the 4 Face Buddha went well. some important developments at work that are upcoming, and some vital personal plans to see thru. of course, i seek peace, health, and happiness for my loved ones, and employees. it’ll be another great quarter ahead!! =))
also, there’s this new property in Sukhumvit which i must check out on my next trip. it’ll make for a wonderful bachelor’s pad, a second home in BKK, or just to rent it out! i think it’s quite reasonably priced, and a good time to purchase since everything’s going haywire.

あした、バンコクへいくんです!
leaving for BKK in the afternoon. it’s always lovely to repay my gratitude for all that’s been bestowed upon me. of course, good food and traditional thai massages have been scheduled! yipeeee.

it’s raining babies!! congratulations, baby and edwin! you made the 5 mins sound so easy!! but sorry you had to go thru the next 120 min. well done! another cute one for sure!!

i went for something radical today, having to bleach my hair like three times over (ittai!! no pain no gain; my poor scalp). and i’m lovin’ it! thanks Hector! i haven’t had hair this white before.
amongst my stack of mail earlier tonight was one from Vietnam. i knew it must be from Van Sang. turned out it was his annual report card! the boy drew me an orang utan. kawaii~!.
maybe cos he knows i like LKY. or maybe cos he knew about Ah Meng. he’s grown taller, and was clad in probably his best clothes (a bit oversized), and the same pair of oversized shoes (which look alot less big as compared to his last photo). and yes, he’s grown even more handsome now. still doesn’t like to smile. HH suspects the boy thinks he’s got bad teeth, maybe. i’m not sure. i really wanna go visit him. soon, before he grow up to be one heckavu shao nu sha shou! lol.
speaking of which, Tuesday being our house-cleaning day, we had a day out in town. caught Shaolin Girl, which was an extremely silly film. please dun watch it, not even if you had free tickets like me. brought HH to Persimmon at The Link Hotel cos i promised Helena and Sharon (another one, who actually also did appear in Tiramisu). is I.S. Magazine serious when they said their Pork Pasta was a tad on the dry side? IT’S THE BEST FUNKING PASTA EVER!! anyway, you guys have to try their food out. the Hainanese Chicken Salad - even better than eating Hainanese Chicken Rice! other must-tries are the Fisherman’s Pie (with laksa filling, fresh fish slices, turgid prawns and suculent scallops!!), Curry Powdered Chicken Wings (a bit oily, but not salty at all. i can gorge down the entire plate!!), and the Teh Tarik Freddo Ice Cream ~ YUMMY! coffee gets my stamp of approval as well. check out the “cookie” that comes with kopi-o! it’s my idea!!

in other news, Kenji and i have started our elementary Japanese course. it’s really not that elementary… to think we both had a couple of years of grounding in the past. they teach like you already know the Kana. i pity those with absolutely no prior knowledge of the language. they were gasping for air, i could tell! my idea was to brush up/refresh my Japanese before schooling in Tokyo as Waseda Uni assumes you have basic knowledge — gawd knows what sort of standard they’re talking about. i very cao kiasu lor, bought another textbook so i can keep ahead of the class. i intend to be in the dean’s list you know? like Shaz. LMAO. going for a much-needed haircut tmrw. and pedicure. yipeeee~!
p/s: Shaz, good for the bassett hound! i tell you, guys are so predictable it’s gross. at least you know he called with “good news”. muahahaha. omedettou!
